Opportunity for Graduate Studies: Exploring Agroecosystems, Climate Change, and Soil Health at Brock University

Are you passionate about environmental science and eager to delve into research that addresses pressing global challenges? If so, Brock University has an exciting opportunity for you. We are currently offering funded graduate student positions in the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or Biotechnology for ongoing projects focusing on agroecosystems, climate change, and soil health.

Why Brock University?

Located in the picturesque Niagara region, Brock University provides an ideal setting for conducting research in controlled and operating conditions. Our well-equipped departments boast state-of-the-art facilities, analytical equipment, and greenhouses, as well as research experimental plots on Brock research farms. With our supportive academic community and ample resources, you’ll have everything you need to excel in your research endeavors.

Available Positions

We are seeking motivated individuals for both Master’s and potentially PhD positions to contribute to current funded projects. The positions are divided into two main research areas:

Biological Sciences: Candidates with a background in ecology, species identification/biodiversity, and biostatistics are encouraged to apply. In this project, successful candidates will have the opportunity to conduct research in ecological assessment and evaluation of the performance of native species in agroecosystems, including organic vineyards. Additionally, there is an opportunity to explore biodiversity assessment and invertebrate assessment, including testing different biological controls under controlled conditions.

Chemistry/Biotechnology: Individuals with skills in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry are sought after for this project. The successful candidate will have the chance to combine soil analysis with plant performance under controlled and semi-controlled conditions, contributing valuable insights into the relationship between soil health and plant productivity.

Application Process

If you are interested in joining our dynamic research teams and contributing to meaningful scientific inquiry, we encourage you to apply. Review of applicants will commence on April 15, 2024, but positions will remain open until suitable candidates are found. All qualified candidates are welcome to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Brock University is committed to diversity and employment equity, and we encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including women, Aboriginal peoples, members of visible minorities, and people with disabilities.
